James B. Caplinger was born to Paul and Sarah (Neaves) Caplinger in October of 1862. He was born in Johnson County, Indiana. James married Julia Florence Raridan on June 19, 1890. They started a family and moved to Bridgeport, Indiana (now a part of southwestern Indianapolis) around 1894. James worked as a construction superintendent. He was a member of the West Washington M. E. Church and the Cedar Camp Lodge No. 9215, of the Modern Woodsmen. James died on November 10, 1912. After funeral services, held at his home, he was buried in Crown Hill cemetery in Indianapolis. Julia Florence Raridan- wife of James B. Caplinger
Julia Florence Raridan was born in 1860. She married James B. Caplinger in 1890 and raised two daughters and a son. Julia can be found in the 1920 census living with the family of her daughter Laura in Indiana. In the 1930 census, Julia was living with her daughter, Bernice Monett in San Fransico, California. Julia F. Caplinger died in California on August 31, 1944. Her body was returned to Indianapolis and was buried next to James in Crown Hill cemetery. [2]

Laura Mildred Caplinger was born in 1891 in Indiana. She appears in the 1900 and 1910 census living with her mother and father in Indianapolis. Laura married Hardes Avery Smith on July 20, 1911. She died on New Years Eve, 1972 and was buied with her husband in Crown Hill Cemetery. [3]
Hardes A. Smith - husband of Laura M. Caplinger
Hardes Avery Smith was born in 1877 in Zionsville, Indiana. He married Minnie Schaeffer, who died in 1910. That marriage produced a daughter, Thelma, in 1908. Hardes married Laura M. Caplinger in 1911. He lived most of his life in the Indianapolis area and worked as a locomotive engineer for the Indianapolis Union (Belt) Railroad for forty-three years. Hardes retired in 1947 with the distinction of never having been involved in a serious wreck. He was a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. In his time away from work he enjoyed gardening and working outdoors. Hardes died at his home on Thursday evening, August 1, 1957. After services in the J. C. Wilson Chapel of the Chimes, Hardes was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. [4]

Hardes A. Smith Jr. was born in 1916 in Indiana. He appears in census records for 1920, 1930 and 1940 living with his mother and father in Indianapolis. Hardes Smith Jr. matriculated from the Indiana Business School and the National Trust Program at Northwestern University. Hardes appears in the Indianapolis city directories from 1938 to 1942 where he is listed as working for the National Biscuit Company. In the 1941 and 1942 directories, Ethel M. Smith is listed as his wife. He later moved to Lexington, Kentucky and worked for Sylvania Electric and the Central Bank & Trust Co. At Sylvania he served as the Operations Officer; at Central Bank he worked as a loan officer, trust director, financial advisor and as a member of the Board of Directors until his retirement in 1981. Hardes, or 'Bud' as he was also known, had an immense reserve of energy and talents which were expressed through community service. He contributed his time and skills to such groups as the Chamber of Commerce, the Salvation Army, Girl Scouts Council, Better Business Bureau, Downtown Lexington Association, Lexington Executives Club, Lexington United Way, Red Cross, Big Sisters, Young Men's Christian Association, Oleika Shriners, Lexington Rotary, and the Westmorland Neighborhood Association. Bud was a member of the Crestwood Christian Church, where he served as treasurer, book-keeper, Deacon and Elder. Around 1985 he married Judith G. Worell, widow of the late Leonard Worell of Lexington. Hardes Avery 'Bud' Smith Jr. died on April 09, 2008 in Lexington. On April 15, 2008 the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky introduced and passed a resolution honoring Bud for his life's work. [5]

Bernice Rhoda Caplinger was born in 1894 in Bridgeport, Indiana. She married George Gilbert Kafader in Indiana on January 28, 1918. Bernice worked at the Crown Hill Cemetery office for six years prior to moving to California. There, she married Chauncey DePew Monett and lived in San Francisco, California. Bernice and Chauncey divorced later divorced. She married Frederick John Moller in 1931 and they had a son and a daughter. Bernice was a member of the Christian Science Church in Piedmont, California. She died in Piedmont on Monday, July 4, 1949. Funeral services were held on Wednesday in Piedmont. No burial information regarding Bernice Moller has been found at this time. [12]
George Gilbert Kafader - husband of Bernice Rhoda Caplinger
George Gilbert Kafader was born in 1900. He married Bernice Rhoda Caplinger in 1918 but the marriage did not last long. George married Marie Isabel Cioscio in Scott County, Indiana on June 25, 1923. He appears in the 1930 census in Indianapolis living by himself. George died on January 8, 1942 and was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery. [13]
Chauncey DePew Monett - husband of Bernice Rhoda Caplinger
Chauncey DePew Monett was born around 1877 in New York City. He appears in the 1930 census in San Francisco living with his wife Bernice and his mother-in-law, Julia Catlinger. The marriage, however, ended in divorce on October 2, 1931. Chauncey was a automobile salesman. He later owned a dealership in Oakland, California, and was the proprietor of a chain of soft drink stands. Chauncey later remarried and raised a family. He died on October 24, 1965 in Newport Beach, California. [14]
Frederick John Moller - husband of Bernice Rhoda Caplinger
Frederick John Moller was born on October 28, 1891 to William and Annie (Delger) Moller in Oakland, California. Frederick came for an established family. His maternal grandfather was reportedly the first millionaire in Oakland, California. He was also a younger brother of Lillian Moller Gilbreth, noted pioneer in industrial engineering and scientific management. Frederick married Bernice Rhoda (Caplinger) Monett on October 3, 1931 in Redwood City, California. For their honeymoon, they ventured on a trip via steamship to Hawaii. Frederick died on January 30, 1938 and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland. [15]

Frederick John Moller II was born on September 25, 1932 in California. He appears in the obituary of his father in 1938. In his mother's obituary 1949, and his sister's wedding in 1957 he is listed as living in Berkeley, California. After his mother's death Frederick was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Carey F. Ramey, friends of his parents. He studied at the University of California (probably at the Berkeley campus) and was affiliated with the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. On January 23, 1965, Frederick married Carol Diane McCabe in the Piedmont Community Church. No other confirmed information for Frederick John Moller II has been located at this time. [16]

Carol Diane McCabe was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. McCabe of Piedmont, California. She attended the University of Arizona. Carol married Frederick John Moller II on January 23, 1965. No other information regarding Carol Diane (McCabe) Moller has been found at this time. [17]

Anne Delger Moller was born in 1921 in California. She appears in the obituaries of her father and mother, in 1938 and 1949 respectively. While in school Anne was affiliated with the Alpha Phi sorority. On Feruary 9, 1957 she married Donald Paul Martin. Donald Paul Martin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Martin of San Lorenzo, California. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 1956 with degrees in Journalism and Speech. While in school, Donald was president of his fraternity, Alpha Delta Phi, and of the Intrafraternity Council. He was also elected to the California Club, Order of the Golden Bear. Donald married Anne Delger Moller in February of 1957 in California. No other confirmed information for Donald Paul Martin has been located at this time. [19]
