James Garrett McClain was born to Jacob and Catherine (Lacefield) McClain in Kentucky on March 9, 1808.  He was one of the early pioneers, and the first in his family, to settle in Johnson County, Indiana, arriving in 1826.  John married Rosannah White in 1826 in Johnson County.  He spent the rest of his life farming in Johnson County.  After Rosannah died, he married Susannah Huffer in 1853.  James married Ann Donovan in June of 1863, three months after Susannah died.  James Garrett McClain died on May 16, 1894 and was buried in Rocklane Cemetery in Johnson County, Indiana. Rosannah White was born in 1810.  She married James Garrett McClain in 1826.  She died on November 18, 1849 and was buried in Glade-Dobbins Cemetery in Johnson County, Indiana.   No other confirmed information for Rosannah has been located at this time. [2]

Susannah Huffer was born in 1827 in Indiana.  She married James Garrett McClain on March 6, 1853.   She died on March 20, 1863 and was buried in Glade-Dobbins Cemetery.  No other confirmed information for Susannah has been located at this time. [3]

Ann Elizabeth Donovan married James Garrett McClain in June of 1863 in Clark Township, Johnson County, Indiana.   No other confirmed information for Ann E. Donovan McClain has been located at this time. [4]
