Best.  They moved onto a farm in the Oak River district, and then, in the spring of 1900, moved to Medicine Hat, where she resided until 1906.  They then moved to the Macklin district, where they lived continuously on the farm with the exception of two years, during which they lived in the town of Macklin.  She was the first white woman to live in township 38, Range 28 and the only one during the years of 1906 and 1907.

Mary Ann died suddenly at her home on Monday, February 12, 1922.  The residents of the town and district were deeply shocked at the news.  Mrs. Scott was very ill shortly after the New Year but seemed to be improving steadily and was unusally cheerful and hopeful but while sitting at the table about 9:30 p.m. with her husband and daughter Owna and two other ladies.  They were examining photographs when she suddenly collapsed.  Dr. Griffith and Dr. Elliot were called immediately and arrived shortly thereafter but found her life to be expired.  She was survived by her husband, three sons and four daughters.  The sons were David, William and James.  The daughter were Mrs Wilbur Thompson, Mrs Raymond Baldwin and the Misses Owna and Bertie, at home. When the Town of Macklin was incorporated in 1913, he became the first Mayor.  For many years he was a Member of the School Board of Macklin, for the most of which time he acted as chairman.  He was also the Justice of the Peace of the Province and in that capacity proved himself a shrewd and capable judge.  As a private citizen he proved himself a neighbour in the true sense and anyone in trouble had only to call on him to receive his assistance to the limit of his capacity.

William George Scott died at his home on Monday, June 1, 1936 from a blood clot to the brain.  Funeral service took place at the family residence at 2 p.m. Thursday, and the remains were interred in Macklin Cemetery beside those of the late Mrs. Scott, who died in 1922.  About a week prior, Mr. Scott was rounding up some cattle in a cart.  The cart capsized and the wheel passed over him.  His family did not think the injury very serious, but the shock proved too much for him, and he failed to rally from the effects of the accident.
