"The Four Legged Members of the Hintz Family" |
Ginger |
Yellow Labrador-Border Collie mix - Adopted in August 2020 from the Madison County Humane Society in Anderson, IN. |
Zeke |
Black Labrador-Border Collie mix - Adopted on December 9, 2018 from the Brown County Humane Society in Nashville, IN who had rescued him from a kill-shelter in the south-central U. S. |
Matt the Cat |
American House Cat - Adopted in May 2017 from Rosie's South Side Animal Shelter in Indianapolis, IN. |
Misty |
American House Cat - Adopted from the Humane Society of Indianapolis. |
Violet |
English Foxhound/Blue Tick Coon Hound mix - Adopted from a hound rescue east of Cincinnati in 2011, Violet was found as a stray in the woods of the Carolinas. She was a real sweetheart but was afraid of anything loud. We worked with a trainer and it helped her to settle down a bit. She loved running leash-free at the dog parks but seemed to enjoy people more than other dogs. Violet passed away on July 18, 2021 after having a debilitating stroke the night before. |
Buddy |
Yellow Lab/Sharpei mix - Adopted from a veterinarian in east-central Ohio in March of 2010, Buddy was surrendered by his original owner when the owner grew too old to take care of a 90-pound dog. He was a big ol' teddy bear who loved to sit outside in the sun and watch birds, rabbits, or whatever sauntered by. He also loved going to the dog park or pretty much anywhere in a car or truck. Buddy passed away on December 6, 2018 after his stomach twisted, which prevented him from being able to eat anything. |
Chloe |
American House Cat - Adopted from a private family in Fishers, IN. She was a litter-mate to Tara, but they didn't get along very well. Chloe liked to burrow in our bed at night. I often woke up in the morning with a very warm hip or leg. Chloe succumbed to cancer and liver failure on March 2, 2013. |
Tara |
American House Cat - Adopted from a private family in Fishers, IN. Tara was a sweet, gentle cat, but was a loner among the felines. She loved to sleep on the pillows between Diane and myself at night. Tara was about 14 years old when she passed away due to complications from old age on April 22, 2018. |
Cooper |
Black Labrador Retriever mix - Cooper was adopted from The Humane Society for Hamilton County in Noblesville, IN. He was only with us a couple of years. Cooper was a very gentle dog. He died on December 27, 2009 from aggressive cancer just four days after diagnosis. |
Abbey |
Black/Chocolate Labrador Retriever - Abbey was born on a farm in Colorado around January of 1999 as the runt of her litter. In her early life, she was around dogs, cats, and rabbits. We found Abbey at the Longmont Humane Society in May of 1999. The only dog in the shelter not going crazy when we walked through the shelter, she hid her rambunctious personality until after she was adopted. From the start she was a noted jumper, managing several escapes from the back yard at our Colorado residence by climbing a 5-foot fence. Abbey was with us at our Longmont and Noblesville homes. In Noblesville she was attacked by a pit bull but she managed to (barely) survive. Abbey was a real chow-hound at heart. She died suddenly from a heart attack in August of 2013 at the age of 14-1/2 years. |
Riggs |
Siamese/American House Cat mix - 17 Dec 2016: Riggs left us this afternoon. At eighteen and a half, he led a long and storied life. Born in Colorado in 1998, and found in a pet store on January 2, 1999 (along with his brother Murtaugh), he joined our family and was a real fireball from the beginning. He survived a harrowing move from Colorado to Indiana, and then from Carmel to Noblesville, to South Indianapolis over the years. He was part Siamese and was very wiry. He was known to frequently pounce on his brother and wrestle until someone succumbed to a fur-licking session. Riggey, as he was also known, often thought he was a dog; coming when called and following me around the house like a shadow whenever potential food opportunities were present. He was also quite the little furnace, who liked to plop himself down on the couch next to someone's hip. There were no quiet purrs from Riggs. He was happy and affectionate to those he knew, but skittish and reserved toward those he didn't. We will miss him greatly, but will take comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain and is probably watching over us with a scowling, but playful, eye. Peace be with you little buddy. |
Murtaugh |
American House Cat - 3 Jun 2017: Murtaugh was a grand cat of the highest order. Born in Colorado in mid-1998 he, and his brother Riggs, came to rule the Hintz household at the start of the next year. Together, they braved the introduction of Abbey, a black-lab pup, and then the great migration to the flat lands of Indiana. In his new home, Murty became the undisputed leader. Ever the faithful companion, he and Riggs, were almost always together. Murty took domain over his human subjects as well; treating them with love and respect. After the second great migration to the house by the water, Murty lost his brother Riggs in mid-winter, but forged ahead and maintained order within a new house, and with new cats. Sadly, age caught up with the great Murtaugh at the end of May 2017. He passed quietly after a couple days of not being able to walk, likely due to a brain lesion. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. |
